A New Era for Tamil Nadu Cricket
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has officially confirmed that former seamer Yo Mahesh will take the helm as the head coach for the state’s senior side for the 2026-27 domestic season. The 38-year-old appointment comes following a challenging previous campaign where the team struggled to find consistency across all formats.
Yo Mahesh, who retired from all forms of cricket in 2020, brings significant experience to the dressing room. Throughout his playing career, he was a formidable force, claiming 108 wickets in 50 first-class matches and 93 wickets in List A cricket at an impressive average of 24.67. His transition into coaching began with the Under-19 setups, where he showcased his leadership abilities. He will now oversee both red-ball and white-ball teams, replacing the split-coaching structure previously held by M Senthilnathan and M Venkataramana.
The decision to consolidate the head coaching role follows a disappointing 2025-26 season where Tamil Nadu failed to reach the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. To support him, the TNCA has brought in J Hariesh, the head coach of Lyca Kovai Kings in the TNPL and current assistant batting coach for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, to serve as an assistant coach specifically for the white-ball leg of the season.
Sandeep Patil Joins Mumbai as Mentor
While Tamil Nadu focuses on a fresh start, Mumbai has opted for a mentorship approach by appointing the legendary Sandeep Patil. At 69, Patil brings a wealth of wisdom to the most successful team in Indian domestic cricket.
