Henry’s all-round heroics hands West Indies win against Pakistan – Chinelle Henry All-Round Heroics Guide West Indies to Victory Over Pakistan
West Indies Outclass Pakistan in High-Scoring T20I Thriller
The West Indies Women continued their impressive run in the T20I tri-series in Ireland, registering a convincing 25-run victory over Pakistan. The star of the show was undoubtedly Chinelle Henry, whose stellar all-round performance bailed the West Indies out of a middle-order slump before she returned with the ball to dismantle Pakistan’s top order. With this victory, the West Indies have solidified their position at the top of the tri-series points table, building on their opening-match win against hosts Ireland.
Matthews and Taylor Lay the Foundation
Opting to bat first, the West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews made her intentions clear right from the outset. Matthews spearheaded a blistering start during the powerplay, taking the Pakistan bowlers to task. In the second over of the innings, she targeted Diana Baig, smashing three boundaries to set a rapid tempo. She followed that up by dismantling Fatima Sana in the third over, crashing five boundaries in a single over of supreme dominance.
However, Pakistan managed to break the dangerous opening stand in the fifth over when Diana Baig returned to dismiss Matthews for a quickfire 40 off just 20 deliveries. The dismissal triggered a mini-collapse as Pakistan’s bowlers quickly made further inroads. Deandra Dottin and Qiana Joseph were dismissed in back-to-back overs, putting the West Indies under sudden pressure.
It was the experienced Stafanie Taylor who stabilized the innings. Taylor played an aggressive counter-attacking knock, smashing four boundaries and two massive sixes during her 23-ball stay. Her rapid 39 runs kept the run rate high, ensuring Pakistan could not fully choke the scoring rate during the middle overs.
Henry and Glasgow Construct Record Partnership
When Pakistan struck back with the quick wickets of Taylor and Jahzara Claxton, the West Indies looked in danger of underachieving on a good batting surface. However, Chinelle Henry joined forces with the talented Jannillea Glasgow to shift the momentum back entirely in the West Indies’ favor.
The duo put together a spectacular 65-run partnership for the sixth wicket off just 37 deliveries—the highest partnership of the entire match. Glasgow anchored her side of the crease beautifully, top-scoring for the West Indies with a crucial 42 runs. Henry provided the late-innings explosive power, finishing unbeaten on 33. She finished the innings in style, hitting a six and a boundary off the final three deliveries to push the West Indies to a formidable total of 199.
Pakistan’s primary bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught. Both Fatima Sana and Diana Baig conceded over 50 runs each in their respective four-over spells, while Shamim (2-27) and Sadia Sandhu (2-29) were the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan.
Pakistan Falters Early in the 200-Run Chase
Chasing a mammoth target of 200 runs, Pakistan’s reply got off to the worst possible start. Shawnisha Hector struck in the very first over of the second innings, removing opener Gull Feroza to put Pakistan on the back foot immediately. Things went from bad to worse in the second over when Chinelle Henry clean-bowled Muneeba Ali for just 2 runs, leaving Pakistan reeling early.
Saira Jabeen provided a temporary spark of hope for the chasing side. Playing with aggressive intent, Jabeen scored a swift 30 off 19 deliveries, hitting six boundaries. However, her aggressive cameo was cut short before she could convert it into a match-winning performance.
Eight-Bowler Strategy Seals the Victory for West Indies
While Pakistan managed to put together a few double-digit partnerships throughout their middle order, they were never able to keep up with the required run rate. Aliya Riaz fought valiantly, top-scoring for Pakistan with a well-made 37 off 28 balls, but she lacked the necessary support from the other end to mount a serious threat.
The West Indies defense was characterized by tactical flexibility, as they utilized as many as eight different bowlers to keep the Pakistani batters guessing. Chinelle Henry capped off her player-of-the-match display with bowling figures of 2 for 13, while Shawnisha Hector also impressed with 2 for 21. Pakistan were eventually restricted to 174 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs, falling 25 runs short of the target.
With two wins from two games, the West Indies are comfortably leading the tri-series points table as they look ahead to the remaining fixtures of the tournament in Ireland.
